Hi everyone, I am facing the reality of going on non-FMLA leave and being out of work for at least 30 days. Due to changing jobs, I don’t qualify for FMLA and it’s protections. Also, due to being in a new district, I only had 5 days of leave and those have been exhausted. After the amputations in December, the hope is that I might be back to work in 30 days but it will depend on my healing, getting fitted for prosthetics, and physical therapy to return to being active. Money will be used to cover expenses and replace missing income.
For those new to my story… it’s been a three year odessey which started with 28 days in ICU and the Covid wing as Covid almost killed me. As a result, I ended up with kidney failure, spending 10 months on dialysis before getting a kidney transplant. The transplant is going great but due to an injury to both feet, I spent 8 months trying to heal the feet before getting a Staph A infection in December that resulted in them having to do emergency surgery to save my leg and my life. They also did a proactive foot amputation so I will be trying to get back to work as a double amputee. It’s been rough but it will not stop me.
