Help Matt Leum Overcome His Medical Crisis

Matt Leum needs our help…. Let’s give back to the Giver.

Our dear friend Matt is enduring one of the most incredible cancer and sepsis journeys and he needs our help. After an arduous and difficult Fall and Winter battling sepsis where Matt almost died, he is now battling colon cancer. He recently finished a grueling round of chemotherapy and radiation. During this process and with the help of his Medical Advocate, Matt secured necessary 24/7 caregiving. The cost is staggering. (Over 500,000 people in the US file for bankruptcy yearly due to medical debt). Matt has a long road to recovery ahead of him and more medical bills. On top of that, he is in constant pain including neuropathy that makes walking agonizing.

Matt is a giver and always has been. He is still friends with many of his classmates and he is the glue that holds together a very tight class of 1982, hosting many events at the Leum Museum. In addition, when he was running his excellent Italian restaurant Roma’s during the Covid lockdown, Matt started an outreach program delivering free meals to fire stations, hospice care and homeless shelters. We have all been the recipient of Matt’s positive attitude and optimistic and generous personality and we are better for it.

Unfortunately luck has not been on Matt’s side (a vast understatement!) with the lease being pulled from Roma’s to the funding for his 24/7 care not materializing (a long story for another time). Matt’s current bill for that care is $45,000.

I know many of you have been following Matt’s journey on Facebook and many have messaged him about getting their first colonoscopy as a result of his story. Good for you and thank you Matt.
