Help Matt Get to Kansas City

Donation protected
This is EXTREMELY humbling for me as I've never asked for money before. It has always been a point of pride that I was able to fund all of my artistic endeavors through my own means.  But this time is different.  As many of you know this past year has been the most difficult one of my life.  I faced a lay off from my steady job in mortgage, which was shortly followed by a series of health issues.  These issues were serious enough to land me in the ER three times in two days and have taken months to recover from.  During this time I lost out on a number of lucrative gigs.

Thankfully, all of this pain and conflict has only served to strengthen my resolve as a musician and human being.  I feel more drive and insight now than ever before and have been feeling the need to further my knowledge.  In the spirit of growing as an artist, Kansas City has been on my mind for the last few years.  It has an incredible (and largely undiscovered) jazz scene. My experience sitting-in with musicians there has highlighted my weak areas and inspired me to tackle my musical blind spots. In addition to that is the opportunity to apply for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at KU in Lawrence, Kansas.  This would provide my an incredible chance to pay my knowledge forward to young musicians in the areas of musicianship and Body Mapping (an injury-preventative modality).

All of these areas are great to aspire to but there are some current life circumstances that are standing in the way of achieving them.  Let me give as clear a picture as possible: Last fall I had saved up around $22,000 for a down payment on a condo.  This came from years of taking as much work as possible and very frugal living.  However, during the last year of paying off medical bills and recovering that sum has been whittled down to a mere $500.  Even with saving as much as I can and living with my folks I still have some expenses and it's been nearly impossible to save.   Additional travel and car repair costs are  simply not an extra expense that I can absorb.  Without your help I simply won't be able to make it to Kansas City and teach and learn from the wonderful musicians there.
