Help Matt Caspers fight against cancer!

Matthew Caspers was in a nearly fatal car accident in April of 2020. He had a broken fibia & tibia, a collapsed lung, bleeding on the brain, and vertebrae fractures in 2 areas of his spine. He was recovering quickly from this accident when his back started to show signs of severe sciatic nerve damage.

Thinking this was caused by overcompensating for his crutches, doctors gave him an epidural shot directly in his spine which provided no relief.  They immediately scheduled an MRI to see the cause of severe back pain.

The results of the test showed that Matt had multiple cancerous tumors that had attached to the bones in his spine, pelvis, and sacrum. This has made him unable to walk and could possibly cause permanent damage to his nervous system.  After a number of MRI's, PT Scans, CT Scans, Tissue and Bone Biopsies, Ultrasounds, and having a port installed directly to his heart, more tumors have been found causing more fractures to his vertebrae in his neck and between his shoulder blades.  He has since been unable to lay down causing him to sit up in order to sleep.

The official prognosis is  STAGE 4 BONE CANCER  which originally started in his esophagus.  He was told they are not going to be able to find a cure due to how rare his type of cancer is and are only looking to prolong his life at this time.   They have given a time frame of 2 months to possibly  2 years.  We feel that this could change if we could raise the funding to do so.

The insurance he has does not provide a bone cancer surgeon or spine specialist on their staff.  This means a second opinion with a bone cancer surgeon could be the difference between finding a cure and saving his life.

His cancer has been labeled extremely rare and has been recommended that he follow a trial that only 37 other people have done with an 80% success rate.  The trial was performed by Sloan Kettering / MD Anderson.

He has already done 3 weeks of radiation and he begins chemotherapy on Oct 8th.   Matt has also been diagnosed with a blood clot in his left leg and has 4 more tumors they have not been able to radiate at this point since they were not found until last week.   One of the tumors is on his skull.    He is currently wearing a neck brace in an attempt to stabilize one of his fractures in his vertebrae.

Matt and Cyn (Cynthia Irwin) have a total of 6 children with one grandchild.  Anyone who knows Matt knows he is a fighter.  Anything you can provide can help make a huge difference and provide him with the fighting chance he deserves.

We are currently unsure of what goal to set for the total looking to raise as the costs involved with his treatment are currently unknown.    Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated, no matter what size.    Any prayers or thoughts are appreciated.
