Help Matt carry out Lynda's Final Wishes
Donation protected
Matt’s mother Lynda passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Sunday, December 29. Matt is an only child and needs to travel from Saskatchewan, Canada to rural England to sort out her final affairs.
Lynda has lived alone for many years in Matt’s childhood home and he is now responsible for clearing it out, locating her will, and carrying out her final wishes. The details of what this will entail are unclear, but we do know he needs to get there in person as soon as possible to begin the process. We are seeking support to cover travel expenses, legal fees, cremation costs and loss of income for the time he will be away.
Matt immigrated to Canada in 2010 and is a caring father to a young child, a devoted partner and selfless friend. He has no other immediate family and has very little contact from his extended family in the UK. He does however have a strong network of chosen family and friends.
Matt was making plans to visit Lynda in November 2024 when the Canada Post Strike was called and he was forced to make the difficult decision to spend his savings on surviving the strike instead of travelling home. A proportion of his usual earnings will be made available through his benefits policy but he will be incurring a loss due to the length of time this trip will require.
Matt became a mail carrier in 2020 but over the last year the majority of his time at Canada Post has been spent representing and supporting his colleagues as a member of the OH&S Committee and one of the founding members of the local Social Steward Chapter. This has involved representing his colleagues during labor disputes, writing policy and negotiating changes to improve working conditions, and connecting people experiencing physical and psychological crises with appropriate supports.
It's never easy to ask for help but our hope is that some of the goodwill Matt has shown to others can come back to him now. To those of you who have been there for him in so many ways during these past few years (you know who you are) we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
