Help Matt through his Double Lung Transplant

Donation protected
Loving family is sharing this fundraiser on behalf of Matthew Jordan, who is currently in the hospital in Salt Lake City on the list for a double lung transplant … which he could undergo at any time.

In 2020, Matt contracted a 'mostly asymptomatic' case of Covid. Despite feeling minimal effects at the time, the illness was extremely invasive on his lungs. He was referred to a pulmonologist who diagnosed him with 'Shattered Glass Opacity,' meaning his lungs looked like shattered glass in imaging. Anyone who knows Matt knows he is an incredibly positive and active person. He adhered to all medical advice offered and resumed bicycling, a sport he has long loved. He believed that with fresh air and perseverance, he could heal, though at times he struggled to properly breathe and relied on supplemental oxygen, even while at work.

On November 22nd, 2024, while fixing his bike, things took a sudden turn for the worse. Matt drove himself to the emergency room, where he was admitted to the ICU and has remained ever since. Matt was diagnosed with Progressive Interstitial Lung Disease and given the devastating news that a double lung transplant is his only chance of survival. Just one week later, we all watched, heartbroken, as Matt was taken by Life Flight to Salt Lake City.

Our family is extending every possible resource we have, and it's nowhere near enough. Matt, a professional musician, is a sole provider, as well as a caregiver for his wife, Vickie, who has lost her eyesight. Matt and Vickie will need help with travel, extended lodging in SLC, loss of wages, bills, food, and medical expenses. Lung transplants are the most difficult organ transplant to recover from, and Matt may need to remain in Salt Lake for up to a year. The good news is that Matt is an excellent candidate due to his good health, humor, positive attitude, and supportive family unit.

On a personal note, Matt has been married to Vickie for 30 years. He is so very loved and has been a patriarch in our family. When Matt fell in love with Vickie, having no children of his own, he happily became an adored stepfather to her four young children. Matt has been with us every step of the way with unwavering support and devotion. Our mom was the sole caregiver to both of her parents before they passed. When her mother had cancer, she brought her into our home and cared for her until her last breath. Years later, when her father was ailing, she brought him into her home, where she and Matt personally cared for him until the end. They did this while parenting four children and working. They have both been so selfless when it comes to the care of others, and now they need our support as they walk down the road of recovery. Matt is the love of Vickie’s life as well as her rock as she navigates the loss of her eyesight. Facing blindness, as well as health challenges, our mom thought things couldn’t really get any worse. Now, this medical crisis has brought unbelievable fear and hardship to Matt and Vickie. Their stay in Salt Lake will be extensive, and their children will continue to do all we can to support them, while we continue to work and parent our young children. We need all of the support we can get.

Any amount, no matter how small, will make a difference. We are hopeful that many people will welcome the chance to help, and that this campaign will make a real difference in supporting Matt and Vickie through an unthinkable time.

Thank you for anything you can do to help!
Please share this fundraiser to help spread the word. We don't know how we will do it without you.

Sincerely,
Matt and Vickie's kids
