Help Matt and his family during his recovery

Update 3/17/23-

Matt left the hospital with a midline and was scheduled for daily antibiotic infusions through the first week of March. After his first infusion, he developed a rash over his whole body, which landed him back at the infectious disease doctor. They ended up removing the midline and are still working to fully get rid of the remaining infection, which is scary since there are still visible and painful spots on Matt’s leg. The doctors have instructed him not to return to work yet until this is fully under control and they know exactly how to manage and prevent re-infection. To be honest, it would be very difficult for Matt to return to work yet anyways since he is still struggling with low oxygen and still waiting on some important medical equipment to be approved by insurance. Matt is doing all he can to work on his health and get stronger for his family. However, I know the stress of not being able to work or provide an income is also taking its toll on him. They told me they don’t know what they would have done without the love and help they’ve received here so far. Thank y’all so much!

Update 3/7/23
Wow!! We have been so blown away by the kindness and generosity. Our family can never thank y’all enough for your goodness and compassion in our time of need.
Thank you so much!! -Matt, Lyndsi, Wyatt, Evan

My name is Alicia and I’m organizing a fundraiser to help my son and his family to get through a time of recovery after a hospital stay and some scary medical issues that have kept Matt out of work for an extended period.
Here is an overview of what’s been going on:

On Monday February 13, 2023 Matt woke up with pain in his right leg. As the day went on his leg became very swollen, red, and more painful making it difficult to stand or walk. This prompted his visit to the emergency room where it was discovered that Matt’s oxygen level was dangerously low. They immediately put him on oxygen and began running tests and admitted Matt to the hospital late that night. While in the hospital, Matt was blindsided with multiple diagnoses including cellulitis in his leg that had already started turning septic. He was put on IV antibiotics while they ran more tests and discovered that he was also suffering from a pulmonary embolism, which contributed to his low oxygen level. On top of that, he was diagnosed with right sided heart failure. That is a very scary thing to hear and we are hopeful that we can help to reverse some of the damage with the help of doctors and diet change. During his hospital stay Matt was put on several new medications that needed to be closely monitored while they also waited for swelling and infection to improve. Matt was in the hospital for 10 long days. As a barber, he doesn’t have the luxury of getting paid if he is not at work cutting hair. Since coming home from the hospital, he is still using oxygen and having to stay off his legs as much as possible. He is also taking blood thinners now due to the pulmonary embolism that he is being treated for. Matt has been back home for a few days, but has not been able to get back to work yet. He hopes to start back late next week on a part time basis and see how his legs and oxygen can handle that. Of course, he has many follow ups with different specialists over the next weeks and months. I know this time has also been very draining and hard on his wife, Lyndsi and his 2 boys, Wyatt and Evan. Lyndsi has her hands full taking care of their young children and now taking care of Matt, too. Lyndsi works part time, but that has been very difficult over these last few weeks. I know they are struggling and worried. I was hoping that this fundraiser could help them with enough to get their bills covered for this month and maybe even next month, so that while they navigate this recovery and try to get back to some type of normal, they don’t have to worry about not having what they need for their family.

I know they would never ask for this themselves and this is a very uncomfortable situation for anyone to be in. Any help that you may be willing to offer is so greatly appreciated!
