Help Mathias Recover!

Hi everyone. I’m Virginia Plunkett, Mathias Hoover’s sister. Mathias was in a serious skiing accident at Beech Mountain on Wednesday evening and was airlifted to an Asheville Hospital. He was intubated and once stable, underwent emergency surgery to repair a shattered pelvis and stop internal bleeding. As of today, Saturday, he is off the breathing tube and able to sit up and talk. He will likely remain in the Asheville ICU for a couple weeks before he can be brought back to a Knoxville hospital. He is truly a miracle and the strongest guy we know. He still faces multiple surgeries on shattered ribs and his arm, as well as extensive rehabilitation over the months to come. The doctors say that it will likely take him 8-10 weeks to walk again, but he will get there and that’s all that matters. I’ve had so many people ask how to help, so this would be a great place to send him what you can. All proceeds will go directly to Mathias to help with some of his medical bills or just whatever he may need during his recovery. We are all so relieved by his progress in just a few short days, as this has been absolutely traumatic for him and our family.
