HELP MATEUSZ GET BACK ON HIS FEET
Donation protected
Dear Donors,
None of us could have foreseen such a scenario...
On June 14th, Mateusz was put into a medically induced coma. In critical condition, he was transferred to the Medical University in Gdańsk, where he underwent another four-hour surgery.
Detailed examinations revealed that the screws used to fuse his spine during the last operation had loosened, and one of them seriously damaged his esophagus! The hole in his esophagus led to an infection. On top of all this, he developed a pneumothorax. After three dramatic days, he was brought out of the coma, but he is still receiving very strong antibiotics.
Mateusz is not speaking; we are trying to read his lips, but it's very difficult for us...
Once the infection subsides, the condition of his esophagus can be assessed, but it is most likely that it will need to be reconstructed, which involves time, more suffering, and finances.
We need to change our approach now – we already know that the six-month rehabilitation we initially anticipated will not be enough. We should be prepared for rehabilitation lasting at least 12 months!
The cost of a 30-day stay in a care and rehabilitation facility was estimated at 30,670 PLN (GBP 6100), and that was before the infection. The new estimate will depend on the improvement of his current health condition, but we still have to wait for that.
THANK YOU to everyone who supports us, shares, comments, organizes fundraisers, and puts items up for auction. Thank you for being with us. And I still ask for your prayers. They are working.

Help us raise funds for the long-term treatment and rehabilitation of Mateusz, who had an accident resulting in a spinal fracture.
Mateusz is my cousin. On June 2, 2024, a tragic accident occurred. This fundraiser aims to collect funds for his long-term rehabilitation and help him get back on his feet. Below is a description of the situation from his mother’s perspective.
Imagine this. It’s three in the morning. The first warm weekend of summer. Someone wakes you up with the news that your son has had an accident. The ambulance is already on its way. You rush downstairs, unaware that what you are about to see and hear will forever change your life and the life of your entire family...
The ambulance arrives. Your son’s condition is critical. An air ambulance is needed for transport. Diagnosis: a spinal fracture in the cervical region. Your son urgently needs surgery. The operation lasts nearly 7 hours. Upon awakening, you hear the worst: your son is paralyzed from the neck down...
My name is Ania, and this story is true; it happened on June 2, 2024. Mateusz is my son. An unfortunate chain of events has ended his plans and become a nightmare, from which I believe we can awaken.
We have always called him The Little. Short, not very strong, but the strongest in spirit among us all. He had grown to be the strongest member of our family: running, dragon boating, Runmageddon, chopping wood, winter swimming – this was his life.
Mateusz has a gift; wherever he goes, he spreads optimism. He never refused to help anyone, listened, advised, uplifted. He truly has that ability. Always on time, without complaining, without asking, with a smile. That’s Mateusz.
The military was his dream. During his studies, he completed the Military Academy, then sought to enter officer school. For him, pursuing his goal is fundamental. He got in! On July 1, 2024, he was to report at the military gates...
The Little is the greatest warrior this earth bears. Returning to full strength is the first thing he must do, and we will help him. He will never give up; he will fight! His place in the military is still waiting for him; he hasn’t been removed from the list, so he has a real goal to achieve.
Currently, Mateusz is in the hospital, but after being discharged, he will require continuous care and specialized rehabilitation. This involves high financial costs, but I believe it is achievable. Money cannot stand in our way...
I believe we can unite an army of people to get my son back on his feet! Every act of kindness, every donation, every share – is worth its weight in gold!
