Hi my name is James and and I am fundraising on behalf of a beloved family in our soccer community — the family of 12-year-old Mateo, who plays on our Gorge FC U12 Tier 3 soccer team.

Mateo’s parents, Fernando and Gisella, have been a warm and supportive part of the Gorge soccer family for the past few years. They’ve given so much to those around them, always showing up with kindness, dedication, and generosity.

But now, they’re facing an incredibly difficult moment.

Recently, Gisella was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the same time, their immigration journey took an unexpected turn. While Fernando and Mateo were approved for to stay in Canada, Gisella’s application was initially denied. So she had to return to Peru to get treatment.

With her diagnosis and treatment needs, the family has made the painful decision to return to Peru so Gisella can receive care and focus on healing — and eventually resume their dream of settling permanently in Canada once she beats cancer.

This situation has placed a tremendous emotional and financial strain on their family — from travel and relocation costs, to medical bills, to the heartbreak of pausing their immigration plans.
