Mateo has been fighting since he was just two weeks old. What we thought would be a less invasive procedure turned into open heart surgery when he was a newborn. For the first four years of his life, medication and constant checkups were part of his everyday routine. By God’s grace, he no longer needed medication—but his journey has continued with cardiology visits every 4–6 months. Recently, we noticed he was struggling to keep up during soccer, the sport he loves most. Coaches would stop him, concerned about his breathing. Last year, doctors found a small hole in his heart, and we held onto hope that it would close on its own. Unfortunately, it hasn’t. Mateo has now been diagnosed with ASD (atrial septal defect), and doctors are recommending surgery sooner rather than later. With little time to prepare, his second open heart surgery is scheduled for June 10th. We are praying this will be his last, and that he can soon return to being a carefree kid, back on the soccer field doing what he loves. With such short notice, the financial burden of travel, medical expenses, and time away from work has been overwhelming. If you feel led to give, share, or pray for Mateo, we would be incredibly grateful. Thank you for being part of his journey.
