Hi, I’m Chantelle, Mat’s stepdaughter, and I’m setting up this fundraiser on behalf of Mat and our family.
On 22 July 2026, our lives changed forever.
Mat was working when he was involved in a devastating road traffic collision. In an instant, everything changed. He was rushed to hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries and has since been transferred to a specialist major trauma centre in London, where he is receiving outstanding care.
Mat has suffered a severe spinal cord injury, multiple broken ribs, a punctured lung and other serious injuries. Complications with his chest meant planned surgery had to be postponed, and he was later placed on a ventilator while doctors treated pneumonia and stabilised his condition. Thanks to the incredible dedication of his medical team, he continues to fight every day.
His spinal cord injury has left him with permanent paralysis from the chest down. He now faces months of rehabilitation, learning to adapt to life as a wheelchair user and overcoming challenges that most of us can only imagine.
If you know Mat, you’ll know he is far more than his injuries. He is a well-loved member of the local community, the owner of a local minibus business, and someone who has always gone above and beyond for others. He has spent years helping people get where they need to be safely and has built lasting friendships through his kindness, generosity and willingness to help anyone in need.
Now it’s our turn to help him.
As a family, we are making regular journeys to London to be by Mat’s side. The travel costs, parking, accommodation, meals and time away from work are all mounting up, and we have no idea how long this part of the journey will last. Once Mat is well enough to leave hospital, there will still be many months of specialist rehabilitation ahead, and his discharge date remains uncertain.
When the time comes for Mat to return home, life will look very different. His home will need adapting, specialist equipment will be required, and there will be ongoing costs that we simply cannot predict yet. At the same time, his business has had to pause while he focuses on his recovery, creating further financial uncertainty for him and his family.
Every penny raised will go towards helping Mat and his family through the months ahead, easing some of the financial burden so they can focus on what matters most—his recovery, rehabilitation and adjusting to this life-changing situation.
Whether you are able to donate or simply share this page, your support means more than we can ever express. Every act of kindness will help remind Mat and his family that they are not facing this journey alone.
From all of us, thank you for your generosity, your compassion and your support during the most difficult time of our lives.
