On the 3/05/2019 Mason Caleb entered the world via emergency C-section due to mum having pre-eclampsia at 34 weeks gestation. Mason was unable to breath efficiently on his own, requiring oxygen support. It was later picked up, Mason is suffering from a condition known as PDA, (Patent ductus arteriosus) which is an opening between two blood vessels leading from the heart. The ductus arteriosus is a blood vessel that allows blood to go around the baby's lungs before birth. Soon after the baby is born and the lungs fill with air, the ductus arteriosus is no longer needed. It most often closes in a couple of days after birth. However in Mason this has not occurred, which requires surgery, to fix this.
Mason was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital via ambulance from North-West Regional to be monitored and be prepped for surgery in Melbourne. Three days ago (4/06) Mason was flown to the Royal Children's hospital in Melbourne. Unfortunately his surgery has been cancelled due to it being more complex than what was thought. Mason also has a narrow arch to the aorta; a condition known as Coarctation Of The Aorta, (COA) which makes the heart work overtime. This requires more than likely open heart surgery, spending more time away from home. This condition will mean Mason will need ongoing appointments, and perhaps future surgeries. Mason's dad Kaidan Leal, and his mum Rochelle Dunham are now financially struggling which is very much unwanted stress. Kaidan is out of work due to being by Masons and his partners side. He has now used up all sick and annual leave. However rent and other bills still need to be paid. We are usually not a family to ask for help, but given the circumstances and current situation this is all we could think of. We would appreciate it immensely if you could please make a donation to help Masons Mummy and Daddy get through this tough time. Even if it's $5, it will make all the difference in Mason's road to recovery. Any unused money that is donated will be re-donated directly to the Ronald McDonald House, as they have supported us over Mason’s journey, they are amazing!
