Help Mason Stay in School Despite Financial Struggles

Mason is currently enrolled at Louisiana Tech University and has to finish out the year there due to their quarter system. He is planning to transfer to UNO for his junior year due to financial issues. He will be living at home so college will be affordable for him.

This year, his college expenses increased exponentially and he also lost a scholarship due to struggling with his grades due to mental health issues. So he is $1700 short for this current quarter and next quarter. He is locked into a dorm lease and has to have a meal plan due to living on campus. Because of the dorm lease, he is unable to move into a cheaper dorm.

He is completely maxed out on student loans. We attempted to get a private loan, but he doesn’t make enough money even though he has fantastic credit. I make just enough to co-sign it I have terrible credit that I am still in the process of rebuilding.

if he gets kicked out due to lack of funds he loses his FAFSA, which covers his entire tuition. So, he is under insane amounts of stress which is affecting his mental health.

I have been trying so hard to help. I’ve tried to sell some belongings but, after losing our home in a tornado in 2024, I lost a large amount of our stuff so I don’t have much of value.

I’ve done everything that I can to avoid doing this, but I am at the end of my rope. I feel like such a failure as a parent. I work so hard to provide for him but my bills are so high and I struggle just to keep them paid. Once I pay bills I have nothing left. When I had to move due to the tornado destroying my home and car my bills increased by over $700 a month. I was also put on a temporary leave from work for over two weeks late last year due to a major personal issue, which destroyed me financially. It put me almost $1500 behind which I still haven’t been able to recover from.

If you are able to help him, I would be eternally grateful. Every penny goes directly to him to give to the finance office.

Thank you so much for reading.
