Help Mason Appleyard Fight MDS

We are seeking your support for our dearest friend, Mason Appleyard. Mason is a 21 year old boy who has Autism and has recently been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome.
Mason was admitted into the hospital due to an extremely low white blood count. After blood transfusions, he was able to go back home but was still sent for many tests to determine why his WBC (white blood count) was so low. It was later found by a specialist in Hamilton that Mason has Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). MDS is often an unrecognized, under-diagnosed rare group of bone marrow failure disorders, where the body no longer makes enough healthy, normal blood cells in the bone marrow. This disease is also known as a form of blood cancer.
He graduated from Belle River District Highschool in June of 2018. Mason is funny, outgoing, tells amazing stories, is amazing at art and will truly make you feel like life is a gift. He created a special bond with the students and staff at school and continues to lighten people’s hearts every day. Mason and I have become very close over the years and it saddens me tremendously what he is going through.
Donations to the Appleyard family will help with trips to Hamilton for chemotherapy, food, bills and other things that are required for his care. His mother deals with health issues herself and is unable to drive, needing assistance bringing Mason out to appointments. Anything donated will help Mason and his family.
It is also encouraged to become a stem cell donor, as Mason is in need of a match. Please go to blood.ca and apply to become a stem cell donor.
