Help Mason and Kara Recover After Dog Park Attack
Donation protected

On a recent visit to Tipps Canine Hollow Dog Park in North Richland Hills, my dog Mason and I experienced a terrifying attack. Mason was mauled by six dogs, suffering severe injuries that required emergency surgery. I had to use my rent money to cover the cost of his surgery, and he still faces a long road ahead with multiple follow-up appointments, x-rays, and possibly more surgeries to check for internal damage. Mason is a fighter and has shown some improvement, but he’s not out of the woods yet. Every day is a challenge as we wait to see how he recovers and what further care he’ll need.
During the attack, I was also bitten and had to go to the emergency room at Baylor Scott and White Hospital. I received treatment for a puncture wound, a tetanus shot, and was prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication. Because of my injuries and Mason’s condition, the vet is suggesting I take at least 10 days off work to care for him but since I work from home I may be able to just take a few off and monitor him still full-time while working from home. Mason needs to have very little movement, so I have to feed him by hand and help him on and off the bed so he can go outside, as he’s in intense pain even with his medication. This has made it even harder to keep up with bills and daily expenses. The financial strain from both Mason’s medical needs and my own has been overwhelming, and I’m reaching out for help to cover our ongoing care and get us both back on our feet.
Your support will go directly toward Mason’s surgeries, daily vet procedures for the next 4-6 weeks minimum, other follow-up veterinary appointments, any additional surgeries he may need, his medications and medical supplies I will need to care for him while at home, and my own medical bills and living expenses while I recover and care for him. Thank you for considering helping us through this difficult time. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference for Mason and me.
Update on Mason and I:
While yesterday I started to see a little personality back in my sweet boy and thought we were on the up turn of this nightmare…
Mason had 2 really intense nightmares I believe last night as he’s barely been able to move and full force jumped on me dog screaming almost knocking me off the bed shaking in what felt like fear so him and I were up most of the night on and off. Finally put some YouTube healing meditation music on the tv and that seemed to help around 3:45am.
Mason wasn’t allowing me to look at his major wound today on his hind leg but the hind leg did look swollen. Luckily we had vet appointment setup for today anyway to follow up. I got Mason checked into Vet to get checked up and last night in one of his nightmares I believe when he screamed and jumped on top of mehe must have tore open his leg wound badly and is currently at vet under sedation getting cleaned up and bandaged.
There isn’t enough skin to stitch him back up like previously, so they are cleaning it out and doing a pressure dressing. I will have to do fluid cleanings daily for 30 minutes for a month or so and I have to bring him back in every other day to get his wound cleaned and re-dressed (they are teaching me how to clean and re-dress it too so I can do it in between days of vet doing it bc the cost each time adds up and it needs to be done daily but vet needs to monitor it. Myself and the vet will need to do this daily for a minimum of 3-4 weeks daily.
He is being put on another stronger antibiotic and a few other meds and he will need to be on limited movement if any for at least 3-4 weeks… so I will have to be glued to his side.
My dog bites are turning lovely bruise colors and the one that penetrated is healing up from what I can tell. I’m just sore more than anything!
Luckily I work from home so hopefully starting tomorrow or Friday I can return to working and just bring my laptop into the bedroom to monitor him 24/7 while working. SHOUT OUT & Thank you to my work family for being so understanding!
I also want to thank all of you who have been donating and sending your support! This is a long road and unfortunately complications occur…
Also we are accepting any towels or bedding, comforters, sheet sets, don’t care old used ugly but he has gone through all mine and I am currently washing them but to have someone to use while mine are being washed would be great. Hydrogen peroxide, bleach, and laundry detergent are helpful because we’re doing a lot of laundry (obviously sanitary purposes etc..
And as always prayers and love!
Love,
Mason and Kara
