I am Ashleigh Jones, daughter to the most beautiful human, heart and spirit you’d ever meet, our momma, Mary Capogrossa and our dad is pretty amazing too, Enrico Capogrossa, but this is focused on our sweet momma.
My siblings, Dylan Capogrossa, Candace Prill and Hunter Capogrossa, (and our spouses Ryan Jones, Nichole Capogrossa, Brian Prill and Kelsey Capogrossa) have all decided that a GoFundMe is the best way to help our parents, family, dad…
This is all very heavy, heart crushing, devastating and unexpected. Our momma felt sick just before the 4th of July…she was sent home originally from the doctors in Munising with nothing to be concerned about. She was in pain and sick after returning home and was then brought to Marquette’s ER a short while after and kept there for a week…full of tests, scans, endoscopies, and pokes and probes. After returning home to The Superior Hotel in Grand Marais, with her favorite person, dad, Rick Capogrossa, while awaiting results from the multiple tests and scans taken, she started feeling worse as the days went on. Results came in as Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. This…only after our momma feeling pain and discomfort for a short while…this was the diagnosis!
After a return to the Marquette ER and them admitting mom yet again, and after the next set of tests, scans, meds, etc….it was known that this cancer was so strong, fast and aggressive, that it had already spread and attacked so much of her.
This is truly the most awful thing for a person to go through, but our sweet momma has been so strong, brave and decisive. She is at peace with coming home and being with us and although we know this will be the most difficult and heartbreaking time for all who love her, we also know that Grand Marais is her favorite place, the hotel holds so many heartfelt memories and she will be surrounded by her loving family to hold her through this.
We have had so many amazing people reach out asking how they can help
or what they can do…this is truly the best way you can help mom and dad. Insurance doesn’t cover any medications she’s been on in the the hospital or at home, nor does it cover all of her care prior to, during and after the diagnosis. We are hoping to alleviate the financial burden through all of this awfulness. It has been such a shock and any sort of help, donation, share, or prayer for this is so greatly appreciated.
Our momma has always been the most Amazing person we will ever meet
