My name is Maryella, and I’m reaching out during one of the most difficult times of my life. I’ve been struggling with severe diabetic complications, especially with my right big toe. For the past three months, I’ve been on antibiotics and in and out of the hospital, working with a wound care doctor and an infectious disease specialist. The goal is to save my toe and avoid amputation, but the wound is stubborn and slow to heal. I also have chronic kidney disease and diabetes, which makes everything more complicated. My job at Panera Bread keeps me on my feet, which unfortunately works against my healing. I’ve missed a lot of work due to hospital stays and frequent doctor visits, and I don’t get paid sick time. This has left me struggling to pay rent, bills, and basic living expenses.
On top of my health challenges, I recently lost my beloved parrotlet, Blueberry, who was my companion for five years. Losing Blueberry was devastating—he was my support and comfort through so much. The grief has been overwhelming, and I still break down when I think about him. Having a feathered companion brought so much joy and comfort to my life, and I’m hoping to adopt another parrotlet to help with the loneliness and depression I’m feeling now. Caring for a bird gives me purpose and helps me heal emotionally.
Any support, no matter how small, would be a blessing and deeply appreciated. Your help will go toward keeping a roof over my head, covering medical bills, and, hopefully, welcoming a new feathered friend into my life. Thank you for reading my story and for any kindness you can share.
