My name is Mary Lou Bourgeois.
I turned 65 in June, 2021. I applied for my Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) and was informed that I made too much money last year. I was on CERB from April till December and before that EI. I appealed it and was still declined. Through a provincial phone number that was given to me from Service Canada, I was informed that if I had applied for CERB through Service Canada I would have qualified for GIS, but because I went through Revenue Canada (CRA) I don’t qualify. This is happening to everyone who turned 65 this year and is applying for GIS. I spoke to one of the MPs and was informed that they are aware of the “GLITCH”. It’s been 10 months for this “GLITCH”. How long can it take to fix?
I am making a $1100.00 with my pensions. I have Diabetes and Fibromyalgia. My rent is $932.00, and I have medication and bills to pay. I have a special diet to follow because of the Diabetes and Fibromyalgia. A loaf of bread is between $5.00 and $8.00 depending where I go shopping and what kind is available. Anything Gluten Free is almost double the price of regular pricing. I was also told to go to Winnipeg Harvest. Harvest is not diabetic friendly, but I was told I can ask for gluten free food.
I really can’t work because of the Fibromyalgia. I would need a very understanding employer because I get really tired which makes me almost unfunctional. At this moment, I am short $900.00 a month. I have borrowed 1000.00 a month for the last 3 months. I really can't afford to be borrowing that for the next 9 months. I am presently looking for a subsidized apartment. So now I need $12,000.00 to cover the next 9 months and pay back the $3,000.00 I have borrowed. I am feeling desperate and don't know what else to do. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
I thank you in advance for your kindness and charity. I am not alone in this. Any extra money I will be forwarding to this other lady who is making even less than I am.
