Please Support Mary Kaye Gattuso in Her Fight Against Metastatic Breast Cancer
Some people have a way of leaving a lasting imprint on your heart—and Mary Kaye Gattuso is one of those people.
From our early days at St. Aloysius grade school to walking the halls of Bishop Hoban High School, Mary Kaye has always been a light in the lives of those around her. Within those school walls, a beautiful circle of friendship was formed—one that continues to surround and support her to this day. Her classmates, teammates, and childhood friends still speak of her warmth, strength, and vibrant spirit. That lifelong bond, built through years of shared memories, laughter, and loyalty, has never faded.
In September 2020, Mary Kaye was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer (Stage 2B). She bravely underwent extensive treatment and reached remission in June 2021. But in December 2024, she received the heartbreaking diagnosis of Metastatic Breast Cancer. She is now undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy, meeting every challenge with the same fierce determination and grace that have defined her throughout her life.
Mary Kaye has always poured her heart into caring for others. She is currently a Surgical Quality Nurse at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, a Diabetic Nurse Educator, and an Associate Professor at Luzerne County Community College—where she’s mentored and inspired future nurses. Her 25+ years working in emergency departments are a testament to her compassion, courage, and unwavering dedication.
Outside the hospital, you might know Mary Kaye from another passion: running. Whether participating in 5Ks or cheering on others, she’s crossed many finish lines—with a medal around her neck and a smile on her face. She’s a loving mother to Scott and Alexis-Taylor, and a proud grandmother to Payton and Revena, her greatest joys.
Now, she needs our support.
We’ve created this GoFundMe to help relieve the financial strain of Mary Kaye’s continued treatments—covering medical costs, travel expenses, and day-to-day needs while she focuses on healing. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a difference. If you’re not able to give right now, please consider sharing this page and keeping her in your prayers.
Mary Kaye has always been there for so many—her vast circle of friends from childhood through adulthood, her coworkers, her students, and her patients. Let’s rally around her now, the way she’s always shown up for us.
