Help Mary Gonzales with Stroke Recovery

The day before Thanksgiving our beautiful Mother, Mary Gonzales, fell and hit her head. The next day, she cooked and cleaned as always and shared her home for Thanksgiving dinner. That night at 3 am, Mary suffered a massive stroke.

Brain surgery to remove a clot the next day determined that a major portion of brain function was lost. She is coherent but cannot eat, speak, nor walk. She is paralyzed on her dominant side and has been moved to 4 different facilities with little progress.  Insurance will no longer cover staying in a facility other than a nursing home with no rehab. This would be devastating. We want to bring our mother home.

Currently, even with insurance, the daily cost of staying in a skilled nursing facility is over $5500 per month. Anything you can give will go directly to her ongoing care.

Mary has spent her life in the loving and selfless care of others. Always cooking and feeding people, always serving in her church and community. She was on her feet all day at our fundraisers and spent the last 6 years traveling to and from Dallas to care for her great grandbaby who had 2 open-heart surgeries. AND she would never ask for this help herself even if she could.

We are still hopeful that she CAN make some kind of recovery and doctors have said it IS possible. Your contribution will help our family move forward with the care she needs.

The only contact we've had with Mary for the 6 weeks has been by window visits due to COVID-19.  All the more reason to bring her home.



Our goals are to:

• Bring mom home for continuous family care and support as soon as possible

• Implement Hospice care and/or home health care

• Bring in a speech therapist, "occupational"/life skills therapist, and physical therapist to work with her several times a week

• Provide medical equipment for her continued recovery

• Pay for ongoing medical care and expenses
