Mary Born needs our help!
Mary’s landlord is illegally evicting her from the small cottage she has called home for more than a decade, and she will be kicked out within 20 days.
Mary can’t afford the skyrocketing rents in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, but she has a plan.
Mary has purchased a broken-down camper trailer, badly in need of restoration. She hopes to acquire a plot of ultra-cheap land somewhere in Los Angeles County, tow the trailer there, fix it up, and make a home for herself.
But that’s only the beginning. Mary has big plans for that land. She wants to put additional dwelling spaces on it, whether in the form of tents, yurts, tiny homes, prefab cabins, or some combination thereof.
This will be Mary’s little arts enclave, a destination for everybody from artists and musicians to vacationers, campers, and day-trippers who want to get a little off the grid.
That Mary would use her personal housing emergency as a springboard to hatch such big plans is an example of whom she is: A resourceful self-starter who creates opportunity where others might only see disaster and doom.
One of Mary’s best songs says, “Out of the dirt we find the roses.”
Mary has done so much for so many, often with little recognition. She has never been one to ask for or accept any kind of financial help. But the fact that she won’t ask for it doesn’t mean we can’t give it.
