Help Mary Beth Fight Cancer
Donation protected
In August 2018 Mary Beth was diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancer. At 28 years old, serious medical concerns were not on her radar. There was a tumor on her cervix, which had penetrated the uterus and spots detected on her lymph nodes. An immediate action plan was put in place involving five rounds of chemotherapy and 25 rounds of targeted radiation.
Throughout treatment Mary Beth shared her journey with the world, was vibrant, positive and continued to work every day - even on days she had treatment. She was the poster child for someone not letting cancer stop her.
Cancer, unfortunately, cared not. After a brief period of thinking she was cancer free Mary Beth got the news that the cancer on the Lymph Nodes was not only still there, but had grown. Again she rallied and prepared for what would be a much more intense round of 6 chemotherapy treatments. This time involving hair loss and more severe side effects expected. She went to work every day, she stayed positive, she readied for the fight.
It's impossible to summarize here everything that happened during this second round of chemotherapy. If there is a known complication to cancer treatment Mary Beth has experienced it. She has felt staggering pain, dealt with the uncertainty of what was causing it, and has had many procedures that have nothing to do with the cancer itself, but rather its cruel ripple effect. Still Mary Beth fought on.
This month she was hit with a tough blow. Her cancer is not responding to chemotherapy. In fact it has grown during treatment. The doctors have stopped her treatment in search of an alternative. Word has come that there is hope for her in Toronto. There are specialists and clinical trials available at Princess Margaret Hospital that aren't available in Nova Scotia.
This will involve months of travel and accommodations for her and her family while she is vetted, selected and participates in a clinical trial. Not all drugs are funded, so there could be more out of pocket expenses. Please help us to take one weight off of her shoulders.
Let's make sure that she has her support system in Toronto with her.
Let's make sure there is NO barrier to her treatment.
Let's let her concentrate on treatment, not bills.
Let's fund Mary Beth's path to Toronto.
(all funds will go to Mary Beth's mother, Donna Thompson - who is helping facilitate MB's travel and medical costs).
