For as long as I can remember my mother Mary has been an advocate for others. She’s been a social worker and mental health professional for over 35 years working at places such as Social Services, Department of the Army, Department of Veterans Affairs, Group Homes, and home health and hospice. A predominate part of her career was making home visits for patients. Her health forced her to retire early.
I was fortunate enough to be raised by such a caring person. Growing up I remember her countless acts of charity, developed programs to help assist terminal patients in a last wish, anonymously paying for meals for people she saw in restaurants that she knew were facing illness and income challenges, having someone dress up as Santa to bring gifts to a family who couldn’t afford Christmas, giving families a box of Thanksgiving food each year, paying for patients prescriptions, sponsoring animal adoptions, paying for veterinary bills for low income families, and far to many things to list..
Mary regularly made donations to such charities as The Sunshine Foundation, UPAWS, Almost Home Animal Shelter, The Humane Society, Donors Choose, and others Go Fund Me.
Now she needs your help. She suffers from a number of medical conditions such as chronic anemia and spinal issues that make it impossible for her to navigate the stairway in our home. Due to this she has been unable to leave the house since March of this year. We’re asking for help to get funding for a stair lift so she can safely get downstairs and start to move around more and make it to her medical appointments such as her regular blood transfusions, infusions, physical therapy, etc. Due to the turn in our stairway it’s an extra cost to have a chair lift custom built to fit.
Please consider making a donation of any size to help us at this difficult time. Thank you!
