My name is Joli, and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend Mary B., who is currently facing a medical crisis she cannot afford on her own.

Mary recently suffered a serious fall that left her with severe bruising to her face, throat, and neck. After the fall, her doctors discovered an abnormality on her EKG. They now believe the fall may have happened because of an underlying heart issue that requires further testing so they can diagnose and treat it properly.

Mary wants to get the testing her doctors have ordered, but she cannot move forward because her supplemental insurance coverage changed unexpectedly, leaving her with out-of-pocket costs. She lives on a fixed Social Security income of about $1,700 a month, and after basic living expenses, she simply has nothing left.

Mary spent many years supporting her husband through Graduate school, helping build his career and raising 3 children and paying for their college education. After the marriage ended, she was left with very little. She recently tried to qualify for the portion of Social Security she should be entitled to from that marriage, but was denied. She has been trying to survive on her current income, often going without enough food.

Mary is humble, kind, and would never ask for help herself — so I am asking for her.

We are raising $5000 so Mary can:

• Get the heart testing her doctor urgently recommended

• Cover transportation to and from appointments

• Have enough food and essentials during this medically fragile time

All funds raised will go directly toward Mary’s medical and basic-needs expenses.
