Help Mary Andrade Through Her Cancer Journey

To Rio and our Maricopa family,
Some of you may already know, but for those who don’t, our former colleague and friend, Mary Andrade, has been quietly and bravely facing one of life’s toughest battles. Since August of last year, Mary has been fighting breast cancer with the same strength and determination that she brought to Rio Salado College for over 30 years.
I first met Mary when I started at Rio back in 2002. On my first day, she gave me a tour of our campus (building) — I still remember getting dizzy from walking in circles on each floor, haha! But more than that, she took me under her wing. Mary didn’t just show me the ropes — she believed in me and taught me so much. She didn't give a lot of people special projects, but I was one of the lucky ones, for which I am so thankful.
Mary gave her heart and soul to our college and our community. Her retirement was well-earned, though I know how hard it was for her to say goodbye in March 2023. She finally had the chance to travel to Australia to spend precious time with her beautiful daughter and grandkids — something she had long dreamed of.
When I heard that she had found a lump, my heart sank. But in true Mary fashion, she faced the challenge head-on, undergoing 16 rounds of chemo, which she just completed. She has remained strong, hopeful, and committed to her faith.
As Mary prepares for upcoming surgeries, I thought it would be a beautiful gesture for her Rio family to come together to support her. The road ahead includes medical expenses and the small comforts that help along the way—nourishing meals, recovery supplies, and moments of peace.
If you're able to give, no matter the amount, it would mean the world. Let’s show Mary the love and care surrounding her as she continues healing.
With love and gratitude,
