Help Mary and Marshall Rebuild Their Home
Donation protected
Hey team,
This GoFundMe is being created by a few of Mary's closest friends from Florida who know our community is ready to band together to get them back on their feet.
The Situation:
In 2019, Mary and Marshall found their dream property—a few acres on a mountainside in Weaverville, North Carolina. It was their sanctuary, the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. Over five years they lovingly transformed a primitive structure into a home, pouring every spare resource into it.
The Damage:
Hurricane Helene struck and in just four days their world unraveled. The house they lovingly restored is now buried beneath a tangle of fallen trees, their cars crushed under the weight of the storm’s destruction. Miraculously they survived, thanks only to the cinder block structure that held strong when the first tree fell directly over where they slept. They salvaged what they could by drying out keepsakes and packing the remains of their life into plastic bins. After clearing trees by hand and hiking their stuff across a washed-out creek to a borrowed car they fled to Florida, leaving behind the home they had built with love.
The Road Ahead:
Due to the home being classified as a workshop, they were unable to secure insurance coverage, despite their best efforts to do so. Without home insurance, Mary and Marshall are facing the overwhelming challenge of rebuilding from scratch. They’ve lost their home, most of their belongings, and all the fruits of five years of labor. Their recovery begins with reconstructing the only access to their property—a bridge washed away by the flood.
Anyone who's met Mary or Marshall knows how special they are. They've given so much to all of us and so many of their friends have asked how they can help. We know their community wants to show their support. The money raised will be spent rebuilding their home and replenishing their necessities. With us behind them they can begin to rebuild their lives and restore their hope. They're grateful to live to hug, dance, and laugh with you all again as soon as possible. Feel free to contribute what you can and we thank you a million times for your donation.
