Help Mary Alice Stay Safe and Loved at Home

My name is Kellie, and I’m raising funds for my beloved mother, Mary Alice Banfield. She’s 80 years old, living with dementia and COPD, in urgent need of long-term care here in San Antonio, TX.

My mom spent over 40 years as a hairdresser — lifting spirits, listening to stories, and making people feel beautiful. She grew up poor in Columbia, South Carolina, with just a high school education, but she built a life through hard work, grit, and generosity. She never took a real vacation, never asked for much, and always gave more than she had.

Now, she needs help.

Her savings is completely gone, and her only income is a modest monthly Social Security check. She has no insurance to cover the cost of care, and no blood family nearby except me (her daughter) and my son. I’m a single mom working full-time, and while I do everything I can, she now requires 24-hour care — something I simply can’t provide alone.

Mom does not want to go into a nursing home, who can blame her, and I want to honor that wish. She deserves to spend her days in the comfort of her home, surrounded by love and dignity.

We’ve applied for assistance through Texas Health and Human Services, but they only cover 31 hours a week. While we wait for their decision, we urgently need support to bridge the gap and ensure Mom receives the care she needs right now.
