Hello Friends, Family and Well wishers.
My son Marvin is 37 years old and was diagnosed on April 24th 2021, with cancer of not one, or two, but NINE (9) different areas of his body. He received his diagnosis on his wife’s birthday and 12 days after mine.
On April 13th 2021 (5 weeks ago) he went to the emergency room with swelling and severe pain of his abdomen. He was admitted and diagnosed hours later with terminal pancreatic cancer metastasized (spread) to the liver, kidney, lungs and lymph. Marvin at the age of 37 was given less than two years to live, as there is no treatment for pancreatic cancer.
Four (4) days later, after more testing, his diagnosis was changed to Large Diffuse B cells Lymphoma metastasized (spread) to 9 areas of his body namely, his Neck, pancreas, lung, liver, kidney, spleen, abdomen, bone marrow and entire retro peritoneal area. His life expectancy changed, to him having a fighting chance, as this new diagnosis is treatable, unlike pancreatic cancer.
He received one of six cycles of chemotherapy, 3 days after his son's birthday. He is currently still admitted and is receiving daily blood and platelet infusions, due to destruction of his bone marrow by lymphoma and the chemotherapy. He is on a purée diet (blended food) due to mucositis (mouth sores) and esophagitis (throat sores) which makes eating difficult. He has a severe fever(neutropenic fever) due to a white blood count level of zero, and is on continuous IV antibiotics to prevent infection.
Marvin has lost 30lbs in 2 weeks. He has severe headaches daily and has had
numerous MRI’s, CAT Scans, and a lumbar puncture, trying to identify the source of his headaches and hopefully rule out lymphoma of the brain.
Marvin is a kind, considerate and empathetic person towards any and everyone. He has lived a healthy lifestyle for all his life. He is a pescatarian (vegan that eats fish) who exercised daily and ate organic. He never had an illness or took medication before being diagnosed with cancer.
He’s a nurturing father to two beautiful children aged 17 and 21 and 2 dogs. His daughter is a nursing school student and his son- an aspiring astrophysicist- who is a Senior in HS and is currently teaching himself coding (to make video games). His lovely wife was diagnosed in 2015 with severe Crohn’s and Colitis. She underwent a major surgery, which left her unable to work and requiring maximum assistance. Marvin took off working to care for her by himself throughout her disease process and recovery and has exhausted his savings. Anyone who knows him, knows that he will give himself for the cause of others. Marvin is now fighting the fight of his life.
Marvin is an optimist, even on days when he’s in pain and receives negative lab results, he remains positive.
In the words of Marvin,
“GOD ONLY GIVES HIS TOUGHEST FIGHT TO HIS STRONGEST WARRIORS."
Our goal is to have him transferred to a cancer hospital (Sloan Kettering) which would allow for a better chance of survival, but they do not accept the standard medical insurance that he has.
The cost for treatment will be expensive and his family is asking for donations. Nothing is too small and everything is appreciated.
As his mother, it saddens me to see my son suffering and his wife and kids hurting. No family should have to go through this. Please keep Marvin in your prayers and thank you in advance for your contribution to save a young vibrant life.
