Marvin has been a dedicated team member of our Community Gardens Program for the past four years, joining us after an internship with Friends of Alemany Farm. Many of you know him for his bright and kind energy. Among many other contributions, he's fixed planter boxes, led field trips for young learners, and hauled tons of greenwaste, compost, and farm fresh produce to help meet community needs - literally carrying the work that helps uplift our community members.
Recently, Marvin was the victim of a brutal and unprovoked act of violence. When trying to look out for a friend who was being assaulted, the assailants turned on Marvin. He was stabbed multiple times and sustained serious injuries. At one point, he believed he might not survive.
Marvin is now recovering, but he has a long road ahead. Doctors expect that he will be unable to work for at least three months as he heals. As a contracted intern, he does not have the financial safety net that many full-time employees might rely on during a crisis like this.
Marvin grew up in foster care and has had to navigate much of life without a strong support system. Today, we—his coworkers, friends, and community—want to make sure he is not facing this moment alone.
We are raising funds to help cover Marvin’s basic living expenses during his recovery, including rent, food, and essential bills. Our goal is to give him the stability and peace of mind he needs to focus fully on healing.
If you’re able to contribute, any amount will make a meaningful difference. And if you can’t donate, sharing this page with others is another powerful way to help.
Thank you for standing with Marvin and showing him the same care and compassion he has always shown to others.
