Hi i'm Marvel,
I am a 6 month old Golden Retriever who has been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia . I've been told that even though it's a genetic disorder, i'm special because it's rare to have it this young.
This disorder means that i am in constant pain when i walk, stand, run or jump. Therefore, i am limited to what i am allowed to do. But worst of all i can't behave like the playful, friendly puppy i am.
My doctors at Animal Medical Centre say that if i wanted to get better i had to see Dr. Chris Preston at the Pet Emergency and Specialist Centre, who will preform a Double Pelvic Osteotomy (DOP). This required me to go on a big plane to Melbourne.
On March 27th, 2019 we saw Dr.Chris. Unfortunately, after various tests and some new x-rays it was confirmed my condition had drastically deteriorated. Therefore, the DPO, as previously discussed, was not an option for me anymore.
So now the options I have total hip replacement or euthanasia. Clearly I’m too cute for mum to even consider euthanasia..... I mean who can say no to this face?
Total hip replacement it is. However, these can not be done at the same time as it’s too risky for a pup my age. My first hip replacement is happening March 27th which has been paid for. But a pup needs 2 hips to be completely pain free.
This is going to cost Mum a lot more than previously expected and she needs the support of others to help make it happen.
COSTS:
$8,800 for each hip ($17,600 total)
ADDITIONAL COST:
- Hydrotherapy
- Medication
- Care (for 6wks, after my surgery)
- Check-ups (xrays, follow-ups)
Mum has been ugly crying since she first found out, and no one wants to see that.... trust me! All she wants is for me to be active, healthy and happy. So i would really appreciate it if you could make a small contribution towards my surgeries, to take away some of the stress. Every donation counts and is appreciated, no matter how small!
