Help Marul Find a Safe Home

Donation protected
Hello, dear friends and kind strangers,

My name is Ahsen, though many of you know me online as Marul, or Marulart. I’m a student and comic artist based in the United States, trying to carve out a living through my art. Unfortunately, life took a devastating and unexpected turn recently, and my world was shattered.

Imagine this: You’re living in a shared space, trying to balance student life while supporting yourself through your art. Your family is far away in another country. Then, out of nowhere, you’re humiliated and thrown out onto the streets with your belongings, all because you make art—because you dare to express yourself. You’re given no chance to defend yourself or explain. That’s the nightmare I’m living right now.

Currently, I’m staying in a friend’s garage. While I am beyond grateful for the roof over my head, the garage is not a suitable space for me to continue my work. There’s no proper setup for my drawing equipment, and I lack stable internet access. On top of this, I am still attending school, juggling my education in an environment that’s far from ideal.

I’ve reached out to my local community and school for help, but I haven’t been able to find the proper support I need due to bureaucratic obstacles and the limit of time. I’m now turning to you—people who have followed my journey, supported my art, or simply those who believe in giving a helping hand.

I only have enough savings to survive for about four weeks, and in that time, I urgently need to secure an apartment. With your support, I can get back on my feet, find a stable home, and continue creating the comics and art that so many of you enjoy. Your kindness would not only help me survive but allow me to thrive again.

In this process, here are all the basic expenses I need to cover and need help with:

  • Rent: In Houston, the average rent for a safe, decent apartment for a 21-year-old woman living alone is around $1,353 per month. The cheapest I’ve been able to find is $1,100.

  • Utilities and bills: Based on my research and previous living experience, the average cost of utilities for one person is around $350 per month, including:

  • Electricity: $82-$83 per month
  • Water: $30 per month
  • Gas: $30 per month
  • Internet: $75 per month
  • Groceries: $150 per month

As a thank you for those who are able to donate a generous amount, I will be offering custom-designed t-shirts and sticker gifts once I am properly settled in my new apartment. You will be credited and gifted these exclusive items to show my appreciation for your incredible support.

Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a huge difference. Your generosity will help me regain my footing and continue doing what I love—bringing art into the world and sharing it with all of you.

Thank you so much for your support.
