As many of you know, my mom and our dear friend Martina Gaiga has been dealt a heartbreaking and devastating hand of stage 4 metastatic melanoma that has spread to her brain and lungs.

In January she suffered a seizure, and was rushed to the hospital where three cancerous tumors were found in her brain. After undergoing emergency neurosurgery at Lions Gate Hospital, they were able to successfully remove one of the large tumors. After this, her team of doctors determined the next step was to move forward with cancer treatment, immunotherapy. Martina started treatment shortly after surgery at the Cancer Agency here in Victoria, BC and is still receiving ongoing treatment. Since then, they have found that her melanoma has progressed at a scary and aggressive rate. There are now multiple tumors in her brain that is really affecting her quality of life. We are now seeking additional treatments, as options are limited and this is crucial for her type of cancer. These treatments can potentially be life-saving. As she continues immunotherapy, she will also be receiving alternative treatments at Integrated Health Clinic, which is not covered by BC medical, that offers great hope. These two treatments combined will significantly improve her chances of remission. These treatments are costly, and so we are asking for your help to reduce some of the financial burden.
