Hi, my name is Marta Botet Borràs, and I’m a Catalan filmmaker currently living in New York, where I moved to pursue the dream of becoming a film director.

Storytelling has always been at the center of my life. I grew up surrounded by books, watching my mother teach literature at university, and learning early on how powerful stories can be when they connect with people. When I was 11, I started a literary YouTube channel and blog, becoming one of the first Catalan booktubers. At 15, I gave a TED Talk about the future of reading in New York, which sparked my initial love for the city that continues now, 11 years later. For years I’ve explored how stories shape the way we understand ourselves and the world around us.

Cinema became the natural extension of that passion.

Today, after having graduated from an Audiovisual Communication major in UPF Barcelona, I’m studying a masters in film at NYFA and building my path as a filmmaker here in New York — a city that inspires incredible ambition, but that also comes with very real challenges. Living here while pursuing a creative career is expensive and uncertain, and every opportunity to make a film matters deeply.

I’m raising funds to produce my short film “Here, in the Middle of Nothing.” This project is deeply personal to me. The story follows a young woman preparing to leave New York after realizing that the dream she came chasing might not unfold the way she imagined. Before returning home, she organizes a small funeral for the version of herself that believed it would.

In many ways, I deeply identify with this character. Like her, I came to this city with a dream and a lot at stake. This film explores that fragile space between ambition and uncertainty: the moment where you’re no longer the person who arrived, but you’re not yet the person you hoped to become.

Making this film is my way of turning that feeling into art.

New York is an incredible place to create, but independent filmmaking here is also extremely challenging. Through this GoFundMe, I’m hoping to raise the resources needed to bring this story to life, working with a team of emerging filmmakers and actors who, like me, are navigating the uncertainty of building a creative life in this city.

If you choose to support this project, you’re not just helping fund a short film; you’re helping an emerging filmmaker take an important step in her journey and giving this story the chance to exist.

Thank you for being part of it :)

Ways you can help bring the film to life:
Independent films only exist because a community decides they should. If you choose to support Here, in the Middle of Nothing, you’re helping bring each piece of the film to life.

Here are some of the ways your contribution becomes part of the film:

✨ $25 — helps feed the crew during a long night shoot, keeping the team energized while we film in the city.

$50 — helps us build Antía’s world through costume pieces that shape her character and the dream she’s saying goodbye to.

$100 — contributes to lighting equipment that allows us to capture the intimate, candlelit atmosphere of the film.

️ $250 — helps secure one of the New York locations where the story unfolds.

$500 — supports post-production and sound design, helping us transform the footage into the final film audiences will see.

Every contribution, big or small, becomes part of the film’s journey!
