Hi, my name is Mars (they/them) and I am a non-binary medical student living in Brighton. I am raising money for my private top surgery.
As a German student, I do not get any help with my tuition fees or living expenses which means that all my savings and earnings go towards my ability to complete my degree. Additionally, my family does not support my decision to get top surgery and I am not getting any support from them.
I only got on a waiting list to be seen by a Gender Clinic recently and it will probably take about 5+ years until I will be seen. I cannot wait that long to receive the gender affirming care that I so desperately need to feel comfortable in my body.
Feeling uncomfortable in my body is taking a toll on my mental health and affecting my everyday life. Having quite a large chest, I cannot achieve a flat chest wearing a binder.
As a medical student I am passionate about and dedicated to improving the treatment of marginalised communities, working towards becoming a doctor in trans healthcare to give back to my community! However, this can only happen if I receive the care that I need and deserve.
I have been incredibly lucky to find and be part of the queer community in Brighton and I have seen how fundraisers like this can change lives.
I would be very greatful for your support and every pound you can spare helps me to achieve my goal. Please share this fundraiser with your friends, family, community to help me raise funds.
What will the funds go towards? In order to receive top surgery, I need to pay for the surgery itself, necessary transport and accommodation abroad, medical items (such as pain medication, wound dressing etc.) for living expenses while recovering from surgery and unable to work.
Your support, whether it is a donation or sharing this fundraiser means the world to me. Thank you so much for considering supporting me!
Love,
Mars Lobin
