To anyone reading this, hello, my name is Mars. Initially I created this fundraiser with the intention of trying to pay off tuition fees associated with getting my masters degree in library science, so that I wouldn't be expelled from my courses for failing to pay on time. However, my situation in life has become a lot more dire and I am now raising money to escape an abusive home environment, which takes precedence over my education and career because I can't progress with either of these things in an environment that is barely habitable. Currently I live with my mother, who I've had a turbulent relationship with my entire life for a variety of reasons. Living with her is incredibly traumatic as she has a long history of verbal, emotional, and financial abuse, controlling and manipulative behaviour that infringes on my independence and privacy, and unpredictable bouts of aggression that put me in danger. Her treatment of me has been an ongoing problem in our family for over a decade, and has only intensified in the time I've been living with her. I desperately need to emancipate myself from her household for my own personal safety and to heal from the abuse, which means I need the funds to relocate myself and my belongings. I would prefer to put as much physical distance between myself and my mom as possible, and have been looking into a variety of options including moving coasts and international teaching programs. Any money raised from this gofundme will go towards the quickest and most accessible option for me to get out, and expenses associated with securing stable housing and sustaining myself until I'm able to go back to work.
