Help Marli Attend Barnard's NextGen Program -Deadline May 30
Donation protected
From the Organizer: If you know Marli and her mother Brandi you love them dearly. If you don't know them, you can see how they love others by what the people around them say about them and how fiercely they are loved. They both have the most giving hearts and are amazing people and that is why I have created this for them. I created this late in the game because when I heard she was not able to attend I could not let Marli lose the opportunity and not be able to fulfill this dream!
From Marli:
"Hi, my name is Marli Field and I’m a current junior at Coppell High School. Recently, I was given the incredible opportunity to study at Barnard College, the sister-school of Columbia University, in New York City in their NextGen Leadership Institution. This is a pre-college program where I would get the privilege to learn more about the world around me and build myself as a leader alongside other strong-minded young women. Being a part of this three-week program would be a truly life changing experience for me, one that will help me grow as a woman and provide memories that will stay with me forever.
Unfortunately, this program is incredibly expensive, as many pre-college programs are. For residential students such as myself, tuition for the three-week institute costs $10,000. Through my application and financial aid request, I was granted an award of $7,629 to help pay this cost by Barnard. However, due to my family’s financial circumstances, the remaining balance, which doesn’t include costs of transportation and living while there, is not something I can pay on my own especially in my short time frame.
I am here asking for help because I hope that there are people who know me, and even those who don’t, who can see what an amazing opportunity this would be for me, as a student, and as a young woman. I am so passionate about diversifying my experiences and my life through taking initiative and learning. I believe that the Barnard NextGen leadership institute is exactly the place for me to do this. This chance I have been given is once in a lifetime, and it would mean the world to me if you helped me reach my goal and show your faith in my dreams too."
In closing: Marli is a talented writer and young leader and one of only a small number students chosen to attend this program (only 6% are accepted). This is a huge honor and experience of a lifetime for her and will also drastically impact her college scholarship and acceptance opportunities. If you feel moved to donate to her Barnard NextGen Fundraiser please do so, but do so quickly as the deadline is May 30. Please share this fundraiser!!! If we do not raise enough funds in time and she is unable to attend the program, a refund will be sent to those who donated. Thank you for your support!
