Help Marley’s Family Recover After a Heartbreaking Scam
Just over a week ago, Marley’s life changed forever. He was cruelly abandoned, dropped from the back of a truck near an equine therapy ranch in Moody, Texas. Thankfully, Marley was found quickly and taken to a veterinarian for evaluation.
Although he was discovered to be deaf, that didn’t matter to the family who welcomed him with open arms. From the moment he arrived, Marley fit right in, bonding instantly with his new family and their other dogs. It was as though he had always been part of their home.
Then, just days later, tragedy struck again.
During a recent storm, Marley slipped through a gap in the backyard fence and disappeared. His family spent hours searching for him, terrified and heartbroken. By the next morning, they had posted everywhere they could, desperately hoping someone had found him.
Then they received what seemed like the answer to their prayers, a phone call from someone claiming Marley had been found and taken to a veterinary office after being hit by a car. They were told he had suffered a dislocated shoulder and a broken femur and needed emergency surgery immediately.
To make the situation even more convincing, they were sent photos that appeared to show Marley injured and lying in a veterinary clinic. The caller insisted that surgery could not begin until payment was made. In Total Surgery was set to cost over $7,000
For Marley’s family, this was an impossible amount. Having recently relocated to escape a domestic violence situation, their financial resources were already stretched incredibly thin. But desperate to save Marley, they did everything they could. They scraped together a $750 deposit
, draining the last of their savings, and sent it, believing it would help save their beloved dog.
Then the nightmare became even worse.
When they later tried to arrange Marley’s pickup, the phone number had been disconnected. After contacting the veterinary office directly, they learned the devastating truth: Marley had never been there. No surgery had been performed. They had been the victims of a cruel and calculated scam.
Thankfully, thanks to the incredible kindness and determination of members of our local Facebook community, Marley was eventually located. He was found safe, healthy, and unharmed, and he is now back where he belongs, at home with the family who loves him.
While Marley is safe, the financial damage remains. The $750 they sent was money they simply could not afford to lose, and unfortunately, it has proven unrecoverable.
We are asking for help to restore what was lost and to give Marley’s family a little breathing room after this emotional and financial ordeal. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference.
Thank you for supporting Marley and the family who refused to give up on him.
