Help Marlenna Overcome Health Challenges

This past summer, our friend Marlenna Smysor found out she had two masses on her ovaries and several areas in her uterus/abdominal area. Throughout the past few months, she’s been through the wringer, holding on through many different complications. Unfortunately, she has not been able to work for most of this time due to being in and out of the hospital and dealing with this illness. She had just accepted a new position as Principal of the ROE’s alternative school when this came up.

Many of you know Marlenna through her work in the field of special education. I met Marlenna as a fellow foster mom. Marlenna opened her home to foster kids and would always be there to help other foster families when in need.

When she came over and saw I didn’t have a lot of toys at my house for my baby, she came back over with a trunk full of her own kids toys to share with my child.

When my foster teen needed a place to stay for a few days while I was out of town, she opened hee home up without hesitation.

Let’s help Marlenna pay her bills during the difficult time while she deals with getting better. We are looking at putting together a fundraiser event in the future to help with long term bills and expenses.

Medically, Marlenna has endometrial cancer that has metastasized to her bones (left iliac, ball of left femur/hip joint, and a vertebra), spread to her cervix, abdominal lymph nodes, outer lining of bladder.

In dealing with the cancer, they have done a complete hysterectomy and abdominal exploratory surgery to remove pounds of cancerous and suspected to be cancerous tissue.

She’s undergone radiation treatment for the lesion on my iliac and will start radiation on the lesion in my hip/left femur on the 11th. She’s undergone 4 rounds of chemotherapy with at least two more scheduled.
