Help Mark's Road to Recovery

UPDATE JUNE 1st: Good news! While Mark was visiting with friends at the hospital Thursday afternoon, the trauma team popped in and asked if he would like to go home. He couldn't get in the car fast enough! With two complicated surgeries behind him, there's finally some light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you to all who sent encouragement and support! Mark's GoFundMe fund surpassed its goal and he is incredibly moved by the outpouring of support.

Our dear friend Mark Griffin experienced a serious bike accident on the evening of May 19th on the way home from visiting with a friend at a restaurant near his home in Boulder, Colorado. The details at this time are sparse, but we know the accident was bad enough that he doesn’t remember details.

Mark needs two surgeries to address multiple skull fractures along with fractures to his eye socket, nose, and hard palette of his mouth. Needless to say, this past week in the hospital has been rough. But luckily, he has incredible insurance that will cover most of his stay.

If you’re acquainted with Mark, you know he’s a dedicated and skilled rock climbing guide in Colorado in the summer and fall seasons, and a ski patroller in Taos, New Mexico during the winter. It goes without saying he’s amazing at what he does — and he’s incredibly dedicated to what many have found as a difficult way to make a living, work. Mark often clocks long hours and overtime each season because he loves what he does, and because he knows the off seasons in between are sparse in terms of his ability to make money.

We know these coming months will be tough. With significant injuries, Mark won’t be able to get outside onto the rock or trails to earn his living. This is going to be hard for many reasons, but ultimately because of his injuries, he’s not going to have an income. We want to support Mark in his recovery over the next few months — and we’re asking for your help. Please donate whatever you can to help Mark cover his basic expenses this summer so he can focus on therapy and recovery rather than worrying about his finances.
