Greetings Family/Friends,
On Tuesday, February 4th, I received notification of my eligibility to participate in an abbreviated 5-week training program leading to the required State of Michigan license permitting me to operate the same sort of business I successfully operated in Illinois for nearly a decade. The training, scheduled to begin February 17th in downtown Lansing, is free; however, there are related expenses I must cover for transportation, lodging, and meals. Sadly, I am not able to cover these expenses alone, and I will not be receiving financial support from any of the relevant state agencies for the blind. Therefore, I humbly ask for **ANY** support you can provide in the form of transportation, lodging, meals, and/or money. Know that at the end of the 5-week training, I will be eligible to **IMMEDIATELY** bid on one of six existing vending locations across the state, resulting in near immediate self-employment. Will you support me?
Background
In spring 2005, I commenced a Chicago-based year-long training designed to prepare me to realize my childhood aspiration of becoming an entrepreneur and small business owner. After successful completion of my training, I relocated to Springfield, Illinois where I spent the next two years working as an apprentice for several small business owners who had already achieved what I endeavored to achieve.
My many years of committed effort and dedicated labor finally resulted in the fruition of my dream when I became the owner/operator of "MR. MUNCHIES VENDING CORP", which began as a single location housing 14 vending machines, ultimately expanding to include 12 buildings, 65 vending machines, and a complete team of employees.
I had reached a secure and satisfactory point of financial independence, an enviable position allowing me to routinely support the needs and dreams of family, friends, employees, and organizations. This level of financial freedom afforded me the luxury of having my own rather beautiful townhome, an array of accessible gadgets, and even the therapeutic waterbed I had yearned to purchase for many years. It was a level of professional and personal achievement far too often denied the blind.
The world as I knew it abruptly changed forever on Christmas morning 2011 when I opened my eyes to discover my limited sight was gone. I was now totally and permanently blind. This began a prolonged period of eight months filled with severe anxiety/panic attacks, debilitating depression, and an overwhelming sense of loneliness. My growing collection of prescribed medications left me beyond myself, and I had no choice but to delegate critical business activities and decisions to individuals I believed I could completely trust.
I soon realized my trust had been misplaced, and I would need to immediately discontinue my mind-altering medications to resume control of MR. MUNCHIES VENDING. The damage, the loss, and the betrayal were all quite extensive, some of which would not be restored for many years thereafter. Fortunately, I had a praying mama, an awesome new assistant manager, and a God who never would forsake me.
Despite tremendous effort and significant success, the operations of MR. MUNCHIES VENDING ceased on January 31, 2015. Subsequently, my financial and physical well-being took a turn for the worse, and I ultimately found myself back in the confines of my mother's guest room in Flint where my woes worsened with diagnosis of congestive heart failure and diabetes.
"Every man knows in his life that he has not fulfilled the promise of his youth. Each of us once knew exactly what was wrong with our profession, trade, craft, or what have you, and vowed to avoid the traps others had fallen into. But now the years have fled, and we have more understanding of the difficulties involved in every aspect of human endeavor. Only those who die young escape the tarnishing of ideals, and the rest of us play the game as best we can in order to get the world's work done." (author unknown)
I am not who I used to be and not yet who I want to be, but be assured I am a man directed by God in route to much better and brighter days. I am prepared to move forward and boldly live a life of prosperity and abundance as it is meant to be.
Help me defy the odds, exceed the expectations, and surmount the barriers by donating to this campaign that will allow me to undergo the required training to resume my success as a blind small business owner within the concession services industry.
Thank you,
Marketoe A. Day
