Help Mark Wood get his ramp
Hi everyone. My name is Sharon. With the help of my entire family, we are creating this GoFundMe for Mark Wood. Mark is my brother, and the brother of 7 others. He is a son, a dad, a grandfather and an uncle to several. In 2019 Mark was having some medical issues. After a year of seeing doctors he was diagnosed with ALS (aka Lou Gehrig's disease) in February 2020. For those who don't know what ALS is, it's a progressive disease of the nervous system that weakens muscles impacting a persons physical function. It is considered a rare disease with only 20,000 cases per year. There is NO cure. His is rapidly progressing and will only continue to do so.
Mark had to move recently because he could no longer navigate the stairs in his second story apartment. He loves his new place but he needs a ramp so he can get in and out of his home in his mobility chair. His entire life he has helped others and now he needs help, even if he won't admit it. He has always been a very independent person, working in carpentry his entire life, so not being able to do things himself has been a difficult adjustment for him. He is doing his best to cope with his new life but needs that ramp to leave his house, especially for doctor appointments.
As many of you know, the cost of lumber has skyrocketed and the ramp he needs has to have 2 sections with a landing. He has a state borrowed one right now, that must be returned in 30 days. This is an absolutely horrific disease and while he can't be cured, he deserves to live the most normal life he can.
My family doesn't normally ask for help but, I am begging you to consider helping him- rather it be donating, sharing the GoFundMe, or just keeping him in your prayers.
If you have any questions you can contact me, or Kim, via Facebook.
Thank you.
Just for reference, I am in Wisconsin but Mark, and most of the family are in upstate New York.
