Hi, My name is Mark Stafford and this is something I never expected to have to do in my lifetime. I have been a person that helps and volunteers for things like this and I don't ask for help. Back in 2021 while getting ready for surgery for a hip issue, the doctor notice in my scans that my prostate appeared to be enlarged. After that surgery, I went to a Urologist who had scans done and then ordered a biopsy. In December 2021, it was determined I had prostate cancer. Hey, I thought not a big deal, many people get this and including my own Father and it's treatable. At the time we decided to do regular PSA blood tests to monitor the cancers progression. The numbers started to elevate some. I spoke to my Urologist who suggested another biopsy. I asked to go ahead with the surgery to remove the prostate. In December of 2022, I had surgery. The pathology report confirmed that cancer had spread, but not beyond the prostate. Now I am in recovery mode. I missed some work, bills began to come in. I do have insurance but I am still paying bills from the hip surgery, then now this starts. It was quite a bit. We are struggling through it like any family would, then something happened. On Monday, February 13th I woke up feeling the need to use the bathroom. It began the next phase of issues. Nothing but blood and clots came out. Immediately my wife Patricia took me to the hospital. We only made it about 15 miles. I had to have an ambulance and was taken to the nearest hospital. I had some sort of internal bleeding in the bladder. Most of the clots were able to pass on their own but some had to be flushed out manually while in the ER. Those were the worst ones. They are just like passing a kidney stone and that had to be done over 20 times. Unbelievable pain. I was then transferred to the hospital where my prostate surgery had been completed. During this time a continual flush of the bladder had to be done with a catheter. Still losing blood and removing clots the entire time. I finally was taken into surgery to have my bladder examined. It was found that just above my stitches from before had torn inside the bladder causing this. The doctor repaired the issue and I was lucky to go home the following day with the catheter still in. The worst part I am now on bed rest for an unknown time and I will be out of my paid time off soon due to the other times off for surgery. Any funds donated will be used for daily expenses when time runs out as well as doctor bills. Again I never thought I would have to ask for help but my family and I could use it. Thank you for any donations and thank you for sharing this.
