Mark Weems Fight Against Stage 3 Lymphoma
Last month, Mark experienced his leg swelling up—first becoming uncomfortable, then unbearably painful. True to form, Mark — who’s never one to complain — tried to tough it out. Then, on Sunday, March 23rd, my mother Maribeth, Mark's wife, took him to the emergency room at United Hospital, where doctors had him admitted immediately.
The medical team ran a series of tests, including an ultrasound on his leg, chest X-rays, and two CT scans to check for blood clots. Instead, they found enlarged lymph nodes in Mark’s abdomen and groin. A biopsy of a lymph node was performed, and on March 25th, Mark was diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoma.
In the days that followed, more tests came quickly: a PET scan, an echocardiogram, a brain MRI, and a lumbar spinal tap. A Port-a-Cath was placed to allow long-term access for chemotherapy.
On March 27th, Mark underwent a bone marrow biopsy and began steroids and the first phase of chemotherapy.
On April 3rd, his bone marrow results came back. He also had another ultrasound, as the swelling in his leg remained. At that point, full chemotherapy treatment was started. Understandably, with both Mark and Maribeth out of work, they're going to need all the help they can get just to keep up with daily expenses and mounting medical costs.
As many of you know, Mark is a big part of our family, our friends, and our church community. He now faces at least 18 weeks of chemotherapy, along with countless appointments, scans, and procedures.
They’re not asking for help — We are. We're reaching out to our extended family, our friends, and anyone who understands what they're going through. Whether you can donate, offer a prayer, or simply share this page, your support would mean the world to us.
Thank you for your love, kindness, and generosity.
