Hi, my name is Cherie, and I’m raising funds for my next-door neighbour, Mark Alexander.
Mark is 58 years old and has been living with Guillain-Barré syndrome since 1988. Guillain-Barré is a rare neurological condition where the body’s immune system attacks the nerves, causing muscle weakness, nerve damage, and in severe cases, paralysis.
For Mark, this has led to long-term damage that has never fully recovered.
He is paralysed from the knees down and has very limited use of his hands, which are affected in a fixed claw position.
Despite this, Mark does everything he can to stay independent and keep moving.
Right now, his mobility scooter is broken and no longer usable. Without it, he is forced to walk into town using a trolley for support, which is extremely difficult and unsafe given his condition. Even short distances take a serious toll on his body.
We are aiming to raise $2,800 to purchase a safe and reliable mobility scooter that will allow Mark to get around independently again. This amount will go directly toward a mid-range scooter that is stable, durable, and suitable for his needs.
Unfortunately, Mark is not currently receiving support through the NDIS and is facing challenges accessing assistance due to issues with identification documents. Living on a disability support pension, covering the full cost of a scooter on his own simply isn’t possible.
Mark is a kind, resilient man who never complains and continues to push through every day despite the challenges he faces. He deserves a safe and reliable way to get around and maintain his independence.
Any donation, big or small, will make a real difference in helping Mark regain his mobility and quality of life. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would mean just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read and support Mark.
