Many of you know, but for those who don't, my son Mark has been going through some serious medical issues for the last 3 years. What started out as an infection in his left leg which left him Hospitalized fighting the infection, has snowballed into a serious condition called CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). For the first 2 1/2 years he was unable to walk at all, and still can only walk very short distances. He has to rely on crutches and a knee scooter to get around, a shower chair just to be able to shower, and has to wear a walking boot to be able to put any pressure on the foot and to protect it from any kind of breeze (which feels like razorblades in the air). This condition causes him severe debilitating pain. Every step is like stabbing a sword straight up through the bottom of his foot, and is also combined with severe burning, swelling, discoloration, and even the lose of all toenails. He has had 7 different nerve blocks as well as a Spinal Cord Stimulator that has been permanently implanted in his back. This condition has kept him from doing the normal things a father and husband does. It has also kept him from being able to work. At first he was receiving temporary disability through workers comp, but that has run out as of March of this year. They are now down to one income, which unfortunately is not enough to pay all the bills or even all of their rent. They have gone through all savings and are in fear of losing everything that they have built for themselves and their family. He has been actively trying to find some kind of work that he could do from home with no luck. he has applied for social security disability and they have denied him and has to go to court to fight the decision. He is constantly getting the run around from workers comp when it comes to approving treatments that are requested by his doctors. They either delay treatment as long as they can, or flat out deny the treatments (saying they are not medically necessary. They have been denied any financial aide from State and Federal programs, and this is a last resort to try and help them out as much as possible. We have been debating for months on whether or not we wanted to use this as an option, because they are not ones to ask for handouts, but they are in desperate need of help. So if you have the ability to donate and help them it would be greatly appreciated, no amount is too small and I know they would be immensely grateful for it.
