Help Mark Marhefka Repair the Amy Marie
Donation protected
I am writing this on behalf of Mark Marhefka and Abundant Seafood. One week ago on July 1st while fishing 50 miles off our coast his boat, the Amy Marie, was struck by lightning. All on board are FINE, but the boat lost ALL its electronics and other critical navigation equipment and is currently at the shipyard being assessed for even further damage at this time. So, in addition to having to pay for extensive repairs, not to mention the cost of purchasing new equipment, Mark is unable to produce any income at this time.
Mark is the most humble of men and honestly had no idea what the damage was once they made their way back after a 20 hour journey home without navigation. Mark just got back up and running after some medical issues that had kept him off the shores for a few months. I have never seen anyone work as hard as Mark. This is grueling work being at sea for days on end in order to bring this community, the Charleston community, the freshest of fish. He is one of the last of the "great hunters' as he said in a video when he won a James Beard Leadership Award for his sustainable fishing practices in 2020.
In this community we try to take care of one another. Mark and Abundant Seafood have been there for restaurants, families and events since I have known him and now it's our turn to be there for him. Please consider donating what you can to get the Amy Marie fixed up and back on the water so he can have freshly caught fish waiting for you back at the dock by Tarvin's Seafood.
