My name is Kimber and my hope is to raise money to help an amazing man with his medical bills. Mark Kirk was helping his stepson to harvest a wheat field. Mark showed up Saturday morning prepared for a long day of harvesting, not even realizing that his life would change drastically in a matter of hours.
A fire started in the wheat field, and Mark tried to make a fire line with his tractor to prevent the spread of this fire to protect homes and other wheat fields nearby. Mark was not trying to be a hero and risk his life; he simply did what he always does, and that is to take care of others. Within minutes, the fire turned on Mark, and he was trapped in an inferno. Mark jumped from his tractor, breaking his ankle, and then ran to the best of his ability. Unfortunately, Mark was caught in the inferno and received burns to 44% of his body, and 2/3 of those burns are 3rd degree. Mark was airlifted to a Level One Trauma Burn Center.
Mark will have to spend a minimum of 45 days in the ICU Burn Unit, and once he’s cleared from the ICU Burn Unit, he will be moved to the surgical burn/rehab floor. Mark has a very long journey ahead of him, going through numerous (too many to count) surgeries and months of recovery. Mark is a hardworking man, and for now, that has been taken from him. While Mark has a very long road ahead of him while in the Trauma Center (and beyond), I’m asking/hoping for the smallest donations to help Mark down this journey. All funds raised will go towards Mark’s medical bills.
