Onze geliefde Mark – vader van vier, echtgenoot, (schoon)zoon, broer, zwager en oom – kreeg vorig jaar op slechts 49-jarige leeftijd de verpletterende diagnose galwegkanker. Een zeldzame vorm van kanker met een slechte prognose. Maar Mark weigerde en weigert nog steeds op te geven!
Na maandenlange intensieve behandelingen in diverse ziekenhuizen binnen Nederland, is duidelijk geworden dat de mogelijkheden hier uitgeput zijn geraakt. Toch is er nog hoop: in Amerika, Duitsland en Spanje zijn gespecialiseerde klinieken met baanbrekende, maar zeer kostbare behandelingen die Mark een kans op herstel kunnen bieden – hopelijk levensreddend en anders levensverlengend (zie bovenstaande video die is verstuurd naar de artsen daar). Maar om daar te komen is jullie hulp keihard nodig!
Waarom is jouw hulp zo belangrijk?
De kosten voor deze behandelingen worden geschat op minimaal €95.000. Dit bedrag bestaat uit medische ingrepen, reis- en verblijfskosten en aanvullende zorg. Deze kosten zijn voor Mark en zijn gezin zonder financiële steun simpelweg onhaalbaar. Na een periode van leven tussen hoop en vrees, met complicaties (zoals ernstige geelzucht, een longembolie, tweemaal sepsis) en lijden, blijft Mark elke dag vechten. Hij wil geen enkele kans onbenut laten en blijft strijden – voor genezing, voor tijd, voor een zo lang mogelijke toekomst met zijn gezin.
Wat gebeurt er met jouw donatie?
- Elke bijdrage komt direct ten goede aan medische kosten, reis- en verblijfskosten en de noodzakelijke zorg voor Mark tijdens de behandeling(en). Dit kunnen ook bijdragen zijn aan alternatieve behandelingen, hulpmiddelen of dagelijkse (thuis)zorg.
- Ook wordt het gebruikt om Mark en zijn gezin in deze zware tijd te ondersteunen. In het allerergste scenario (bij overlijden) willen we hiermee Kirsten, Lizzy, Jilly, Pippy en Boy de ruimte geven om te rouwen en hun leven opnieuw vorm te geven.

The video above is our cry for help to the doctors, and below is our plea to you. We cannot do this without doctors and donors!
Our beloved Mark—father of four, husband, son (in law), brother (in law) and uncle—received the devastating diagnosis of bile duct cancer last year at just 49 years old. This is a rare type of cancer with a poor prognosis. But Mark refused—and still refuses—to give up!
After months of intensive treatments in various hospitals across the Netherlands, it has become clear that all available options here have been exhausted. Yet, there is still hope: specialized clinics in the U.S., Germany and Spain offer groundbreaking but extremely costly treatments that could give Mark a chance at recovery—hopefully life-saving, or at the very least, life-extending (see the video above, which has been sent to the doctors there). But to make this possible, we desperately need your help!
Why is your help so important?
The estimated cost for these treatments is at least €95,000. This includes medical procedures, travel and accommodation expenses, and additional care. For Mark and his family, these costs are simply impossible to cover without financial support. After months of living between hope and fear, facing severe complications (including jaundice, a pulmonary embolism, and sepsis twice), Mark continues to fight every single day. He does not want to leave any stone unturned—he fights for healing, for time, for a future with his family for as long as possible.
What happens with your donation?
- Every contribution goes directly toward medical expenses, travel and accommodation costs, and the necessary care for Mark during his treatments. This also includes potential alternative treatments, medical aids, or daily (home) care.
- Additionally, your donation will help support Mark and his family through this incredibly difficult time. In the worst-case scenario (should he pass away), the funds will provide Kirsten, Lizzy, Jilly, Pippy, and Boy the space to grieve and rebuild their lives.
