If you live in Leslieville, you probably know Mark- whether it’s from seeing his long ginger hair flowing as he rides his bicycle through the neighbourhood like some sort of pedalling viking, or from admiring his beautiful sign that has clad the exterior of 388 Carlaw Ave for many years. For nearly 30 years, Mark has poured his creativity and skill into the community as owner and sole operator of Diety Metallurgy.
His shop has been a hub of craftsmanship, producing everything from architectural details to public art, each piece carrying his unique touch and remarkable attention to detail.
Tragically, last week Mark was in a serious bicycle accident that left him with a completely broken left femur and severe concussion. After emergency surgery, a few screws and titanium rods- he now faces a long recovery of at least 6 months. During this time, he won’t be able to work in his shop or earn an income. As a small business owner, there’s no paid leave or safety net- just the heavy weight of bills and the looming risk of losing the studio he has built his life around.
We’re asking for help to cover Mark’s rent and basic living expenses while he heals. This support will give him the space to recover without the added stress of financial insecurity.
Mark has always been one of the good ones in our community- generous with his time, kind to his neighbors, and dedicated to art. Leslieville wouldn’t be the same without him. Now it’s our turn to give back.
Every single donation helps, no matter the size. Even the cost of a coffee can make a real difference when combined with the kindness of many. If you aren’t able to contribute financially, sharing this campaign is another powerful way to help.
With our support, Mark can focus fully on healing, and when he’s ready, return to the work and community he loves. Let’s make sure that when he’s back on his feet (and back on his bike), Diety Metallurgy will still be here, sparking creativity and shaping our neighborhood for years to come.
Thank you for showing Mark the same care he has shown all of us.
